What actually happened

On September 19, 2025, Microsoft announced the second US console price increase of the year, taking the Series X from $599.99 to $649.99 and the Series S to $399.99, effective October 3, blaming changes in the macroeconomic environment. The Series X now cost $150 more than it did in January, for identical hardware, in the same year the price was also raised abroad. At this rate the console will cost more than the TV it is plugged into, which is presumably the 2030 plan.

This one is officially acknowledged.
