May 2025: the Series X learns what $599.99 feels like
Xbox raised console, controller and game prices worldwide
The market's verdict: +9.6% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On May 1, 2025, Microsoft raised Xbox hardware prices worldwide: the Series X jumped one hundred dollars to $599.99, the Series S went from $299.99 to $379.99, controllers went up, and first party games were set at $79.99 for the holiday. This from the company whose 2013 marketing was built on being the cheaper, friendlier box. Four months later there was a second US increase, because the first one had gone so well.
This one is officially acknowledged.
They did it more than once
