What actually happened
The first Zune went on sale on November 14, 2006 at $249.99, wearing an optional shade of brown that remains the most discussed color decision in hardware history. The ad campaign, Welcome to the Social, famously never showed the product. The signature feature let you beam a song to another Zune owner, where it would play three times or last three days, whichever came first, and then quietly die of DRM. Sharing worked only Zune to Zune, so the social network was limited to whatever two people standing near each other both owning one. It is remembered fondly now, mostly by people who bought it on clearance.
This one is officially acknowledged.
