Preorder day chaos, and the wrong console charted at 747 percent
Xbox Series X preorder day sold out instantly and confused buyers
The market's verdict: +3.4% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On September 22, 2020, Xbox Series X preorders opened at a precise appointed hour and evaporated near instantly across retailers, after Microsoft had promised an orderly process following Sony's preorder fiasco. Meanwhile Amazon's listing confusion sent panicked shoppers to the old Xbox One X instead, which surged 747 percent up Amazon's Movers and Shakers chart on the new console's preorder day. Microsoft had promised to learn from Sony's mess, and technically it did: everyone's mess was now shared.
This one is well documented.
