The $69 billion acquisition, followed by the $ layoffs
Microsoft cut 1,900 gaming staff months after closing Activision Blizzard
The market's verdict: -1.2% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
Three months after closing the 69 billion dollar Activision Blizzard purchase, Microsoft cut 1,900 gaming employees, roughly eight percent of the division, canceled Blizzard's survival game and showed the Blizzard president the door. September brought another 650 cuts, the third round of the year, alongside the studio closures. For customers, the math was straightforward: the industry's biggest war chest, spent, followed by a year of cancellations and closures. The subscription price, it should be noted, went up during all of this.
This one is well documented.
