First party Xbox games join the $70 club
Xbox Game Studios titles rose to $69.99 starting in 2023
The market's verdict: -1.0% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On December 5, 2022, Microsoft announced first party Xbox titles would cost 69.99 dollars starting in 2023, with Starfield, Redfall and Forza Motorsport named, joining Sony, EA and Take Two at the industry's new price point. This from the platform whose entire current pitch is that you do not need to buy games because of the subscription, which itself had been raised in June. The games cost more, the subscription costs more, and the math is left as an exercise for the player.
This one is officially acknowledged.
