What actually happened
The Surface Duo launched in September 2020 at $1,399 and the Duo 2 a year later at $1,499, and both received exactly one Android version upgrade each, to 12L, before Microsoft went quiet. The original Duo reached end of servicing in 2023; the Duo 2 got its final security update in October 2024, ahead of an October 21 end of support. There was no Duo 3 and no announcement, just a support page that stopped getting new entries. A premium device with a three year promise and a two year memory, discontinued in silence, which at least spared everyone a funeral.
