Ten hours of "too many requests" for people who just wanted their email
April 2026 Outlook.com outage logged users out and blocked sign-ins
The market's verdict: -2.6% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On April 27, 2026, Outlook.com and Hotmail users were logged out en masse and met with "too many requests" errors and failed sign-ins for roughly ten hours, with thousands of Downdetector reports stacking up. Microsoft eventually blamed a recently introduced change, which is the classic phrase, and reverted it. The service returned to normal by mid afternoon. A recently introduced change being the cause is at least a change from the weather.
This one is officially acknowledged.
