Microsoft Rewards quietly learned to pay out half
Microsoft slashed Rewards earn rates, halving daily search point caps
The market's verdict: -2.1% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
In late November 2023, Microsoft quietly cut Microsoft Rewards earn rates, roughly halving the daily search point caps for many users and removing the Edge daily bonus, a sudden devaluation of the currency millions redeem for Game Pass time and gift cards. The company's explanation, when it arrived, described an evolution of the program. The program then kept evolving, with further cuts into 2024. A loyalty scheme that pays out less each year while asking for the same loyalty is, at minimum, honest about its expectations.
This one is well documented.
