What actually happened
Starting around two in the morning UTC on November 25, 2024, the Monday of Thanksgiving week, caching infrastructure ran short of capacity and Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint failed worldwide, with Microsoft's mitigation rerouting users to servers, as it later put it, thousands of miles away, and degradation lingering into the next day. Fifteen days later the web apps and admin center fell over again. A holiday travel week, observed from the office, through an outage, twice.
