June 2020: the printers stopped printing
June 2020 cumulative updates broke printing on HP, Toshiba and others
The market's verdict: +0.3% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
The June 9, 2020 cumulative updates broke printing outright for many users, with HP, Toshiba and other printers refusing to print or throwing errors until the update was uninstalled. It took an emergency out of band fix on June 16 to restore the industry's oldest peripheral to working order. The summer's printer apocalypse was later topped in 2021, twice, which suggests a curriculum rather than an accident.
This one is well documented.
