The Master Chief Collection collected everything except working matchmaking
Halo: The Master Chief Collection launched with matchmaking broken for months
The market's verdict: +1.2% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On November 11, 2014, 343 Industries shipped the entire Halo saga on one disc, and the disc needed a 20GB day-one patch just to unlock multiplayer, because the 45GB Blu ray was already full. The multiplayer then did not work: matchmaking hung, sessions failed, and the flagship Xbox One exclusive of the holiday became unplayable online for months. Studio head Bonnie Ross published a formal apology on Xbox Wire on November 25, and in December the make-good arrived: a free remastered Halo 3: ODST, a free map remake, and a month of Gold for anyone who had tried. The collection was not truly fixed for over three years, an apology with a development roadmap.
This one is officially acknowledged.
They did it more than once
2014: couldn't matchmake. 2021: couldn't download. The flagship ships broken, traditionly.
